The following community service opportunities are available to

 SHPL cardholders currently in grades 6-12.

Community service letters are emailed within 2 weeks after the program.

Space may be limited.

Additional community service opportunities may be available to sign up

for at Teen Advisory Board meetings.


Teen Advisory Board

Tuesday, September 17 and October 15

7:00-8:00pm

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is an active organization made up of South Huntington teens in grades 6-12 who work together to make a difference in our library.  Tell us your ideas for community service, programs and contests.  Ms. Jen & Ms. Elizabeth will lead this meeting with what the YA Library is already planning for you with our programs and community service. 

Meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday night of the month at 7pm. Community service hours are provided.  New members are always welcome!  This meeting is for South Huntington library district residents currently in grades 6-12. No registration is required.

 

Huntington Manor Fire Department Thank You Goodie Bags

Thursday, September 19

7:00-8:00pm

Show gratitude and earn one hour of community service by creating goodie bags for our Huntington Manor Fire Department. Registration begins September 13 at 7pm. 

 

Halloween Cards for Hospitalized Kids

Sunday, September 22

2:00-4:00pm

Create Halloween cards to cheer up hospitalized kids! Make two cards and earn a maximum of one hour of community service. For SHPL card holders in grades 6-12.  You will need your own library card to receive community service. No registration required.

 

EMS Thank You Goodie Bags

Saturday, September 28

1:00-2:00pm

Show gratitude and earn one hour of community service by creating goodie bags for our Huntington Community First Aid Squad. Registration begins September 20 at 7:00pm

 

Create Dog Toys

Sunday, October 6

1:00-3:00pm

Give back to our four-legged friends by braiding recycled t-shirts to create tug toys. This in person program takes place in the YA Library and requires experience with cutting fabric and braiding. One dog toy equals one hour of community service with a maximum of two hours.  For SHPL cardholders in 6-12 grade. You will need your own library card to receive community service. No registration required. 

 

Pink Pumpkins

Tuesday, October 8

7:00-8:00pm

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Join us as we make pink pumpkins and pink ribbon pins to bring awareness to the disease. One hour of community service. Registration begins September 27 at 7:00pm. 

 

Pet Pantry

Monday, October 14

4:00-5:00pm

Teens will create kits for people and pets who have fallen on hard times. Kits will be filled with some of the most needed items for cats and dogs. Teens will also create special cards with well wishes. These will be donated to people & pets in need. Registration begins October 4 at 7pm.

 

CD Suncatchers

Thursday, October 24

7:00-8:00pm

Create suncatchers out of CDs that will be donated to senior center. A maximum of one hour of community service.  Registration begins October 18 at 7pm.
