Coming Soon - January / February 2026: Community Service at the Library

The following community service opportunities are available to

 SHPL cardholders currently in grades 6-12. 

Participants must sign up with their own SHPL card in order 

to receive community service.

Community service letters are emailed within 2 weeks after the program.

Space may be limited.

Additional community service opportunities may be available to sign up 

for at Teen Advisory Board meetings.

 


Volunteers Needed for The Wonderful Winter of Oz Reading Carnival on Saturday, January 17   12-4:30pm

Attend one of the following trainings to volunteer:  

  • Tuesday, January 6  7-8pm
  • Monday, January 12   6:30-7:30pm

Community Service given for attending a training and the event (must attend both)

Up to 5.5 hours total

No registration is required to attend the training: Just show Up!


Bookmark Buddies

Tuesday, January 13

7:00-8:00pm

Help share the magic of reading by making cute pom pom “Bookmark Buddies” for children to adopt from the Children’s Department on Take Your Child to the Library Day. One hour of community service. Registration begins January 2 at 7pm.

 

Teen Advisory Board

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is an active organization made up of South Huntington teens who work together to make a difference in our library.  Tell us your ideas for community service, programs and contests.  Ms. Jen & Ms. Elizabeth will lead this meeting with what the YA Library is already planning for you with our programs and community service. 

Meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday night of the month at 7pm. Community service hours are provided.  New members are always welcome! No registration is required.

 

Valentines for Veterans

Saturday, January 31

1:00-3:00pm

Drop by and create 2 Valentine’s Day cards which will be sent to veterans at the Northport VA Center. A maximum of one hour of community service.  No registration is required.

 

Adopt Me Bandanas

Wednesday, February 18

7:00-8:00pm

Teens will create adorable bandanas that shelter pets can wear to adoption events. These bandanas will help to promote each animals' adoption. Registration begins February 6.

 

Decorate a Grocery Bag

Saturday, February 28

1:00-3:00pm

Decorate a reusable grocery tote to be donated to a food pantry.  Earn a maximum of one hour of community service. For SHPL cardholders in grades 6-12. No registration required. First come, first serve.
