Have a deliciously good time with the Baking Coach decorating a jumbo heart cookie with fondant for Valentine's Day. Everyone goes home with a cookie in a decorated bakery box and a recipe. Register Feb. 6.

Instructor Judi Hason will teach this ancient Chinese form of movement said to improve body, mind and health. There is a $31 fee payable at registration beginning Dec. 5 for South Huntington cardholders; all other Dec. 12.

Trained volunteers from AARP will be here to help seniors with their tax returns. Only electronic returns will be prepared. You must bring last year's return and any other pertinent paperwork. Meet volunteers on the Lower Level. First come, first served.

If you have completed a beginner class or you already speak a bit of French and want to improve your skills, Madame Boustany is back with intermediate French instruction for travelers. Spanish Immersion Workshop (SIW), Long Island's leading Spanish program and classes brings Spanish to your child through a playful, interactive, and entertaining full immersion environment. Join us for this 10 week program. Register January 7. There is a $20 non-refundable fee payable upon registration. No class February 21.

2/7 - 6:00PM - Yoga for Teens

Join instructor Augusta Berner for 45 minutes of yoga. You will work on proper alignment, breathing and precision. If you want to learn yoga, this is the class for you! Please bring your own yoga mat or towel and wear comfortable clothing. Registration begins January 10.

2/7 - 7:00PM - Evening Yoga

Instructor Augusta Berner will lead you through a yoga routine that is perfect for relaxing you at the end of the day. There is a $28 fee payable at registration beginning Dec. 6 for South Huntington cardholders.

2/8 - 10:00AM - Register for Getting Ready to Babysit on 2/22

This course from the Cornell Cooperative Extension teaches the responsibilities inherent in babysitting and the skills necessary for the important job of child care. Participants will receive a booklet and certificate upon completion. Refreshments will be provided. There is a nonrefundable fee of $10 due at registration. South Huntington Residents register February 8; non-residents may register February 16.

2/8 - 10:30AM - My Grown Up & Me

My Grown Up & Me is an integrated developmental playgroup that provides an opportunity for each grown-up and child team to have a meaningful experience through music and play. It is sponsored by the library and Alternatives for Children of Melville, Evaluator and Provider of Early Intervention and facilitated by music therapist, Beth Schwartz. Enrollment is limited to just 10 children, ages 18-30 months and an accompanying adult. No siblings please. To enroll, you must call Alternatives for Children at 271-0777 beginning December 21 at 9 a.m. A South Huntington library card is required. No repeaters from other sessions.

Are you wavering on your New Year's resolution to lose weight? Attending this seminar will enable you to immediately understand how each one of your past dieting experiences is affecting your current body weight. Professional weight loss coach Margaret Marshall will give you a handy guide that will teach you how to eat and to achieve your ideal body weight. If you are already following a diet plan, she will help you take control over the diet instead of letting the diet control you. Free; open to all.

Listening to stories is one of the first steps in eventually learning to read. Our children's librarians have wonderful stories to share in this independent program for 3, 4 & 5 year olds. Adults bringing children to these programs should plan to remain nearby in the Children's Department. Register January 3. No class February 23.

Are you an adult 55 or older with an ongoing health condition? Do you live with or care for someone with a chronic illness? Sign up for this free Living Healthy workshop series, developed by Stanford University, during which you will learn from trained volunteers how to set goals and create a step-by-step plan to improve your health and your life. Topics included in this six-week series, conducted by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, include diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, heart disease, nutrition and exercise, positive thinking and so much more. Educational materials will be provided.

The program is free, but registration is required. South Huntington cardholders can sign up online at shpl.info or in person at the Circulation Desk beginning Jan. 5; all others Jan. 12. Enrollment is limited.

2/9 - 1:30PM - Film Fest: Lady Sings the Blues (1972)

Diana Ross gives a stunning performance as the legendary blues singer Billie Holiday. Released 40 years ago, the film chronicles her rise and fall and features her late childhood, stint as a prostitute, drug addiction and early tours. Ross received a Best Actress Oscar nomination and won a Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer. Also starring Billy Dee Williams and Richard Pryor. R, 144 mins.

Come in to the library and spend some time building with our Legos. Everyone will get the chance to build something based on the month's theme. Participants will have their creations displayed in the library for two weeks. Register February 3. Please register for only one session.
