Program Description : Contemporary landscape artists Shain Bard and Liz Kolligs focus on painting Long Island preserves. They concentrate on nature's seasons, featuring paths, water, plants, trees and animals, evoking the rhythms of the natural world. Many people react to Bard's paintings by saying, "I know that place." She wants to strike that chord with viewers but she also wants them to feel the emotion and sensitivity that resonates from her art. Kolligs's paintings are primarily from her visits to Shu Swamp on the North Shore, which she calls "a rare pocket of nature. It cycles thickly verdant in the summer and roughly tangled in the winter."
