  1. AARP Tax Assistance

    Details : Volunteer tax preparers from AARP will be here to provide free tax preparation for low- and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention to those 60 and over. Assistance will be offered on Tuesdays, beginning February 6 and ending on April 10, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The program is free, but due to high demand, registration is required. South Huntington cardholders may sign up beginning Jan. 2. To make an appointment, visit the Circulation Desk or call the library at 631.549.4411. (If filing jointly, both people must attend the appointment.) If space remains, non-residents may sign up beginning Jan. 16. Tax aide volunteers cannot prepare returns that include rental property, military income, alternative minimum tax or those with many stock transactions. Please bring all pertinent tax documents to your appointment, along with last year's tax returns.

    Details : Certified instructor Rosanne Pawluk will lead you in the classic Yang 24 Form as she helps you deepen and refine your practice. The class will also feature a short meditation. There is a $55 fee, payable at registration beginning Feb. 6 for South Huntington cardholders; others Feb. 13.

    Details : Project Excel will be offering two day babysitting preparation course for middle and high school students. Students work hands-on with animated dolls to learn the basics of infant care including feeding, burping, diaper changing, safety and play. Students learn how to engage toddlers and younger children in play as well as scheduling, discipline and safety. Students leave with a toolkit of games and strategies to become top rate caregivers. Registration begins February 6.

  14. 2nd Precinct Community Meeting

    Details : Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department's 2nd Precinct will be here to discuss a topic related to community policing. Residents are encouraged to bring up matters of concern in their neighborhoods.
  15. Executive Teen Advisory Board

    Details : Monthly meetings between the 2017-2018 elected Executive members of the Teen Advisory Board and the adviser/YA Librarian.
