  1. Register for Arthritis and Your Diet on 2/12

    Details : A change in diet can often dramatically reduce symptoms of arthritis. Chef Kathryn Bari-Petritis, author of Health Transforming Foods, will teach you aggressive strategies to help relieve pain and stiffness. Learn the foods to avoid and what powerful foods to add to your diet. We will explore the benefits of ginger and turmeric. Taste samples and recipes will be included. There is a $10 fee, payable at registration beginning Feb. 2 for South Huntington cardholders; others Feb. 9.
  2. Register for Crochet: Pillow & Throw on 2/20
    Time : 9:00 AM

    Details : Instructor Joanne Cohen will show you how to make this luxurious throw and accent pillow in one week and help you assemble and finish it the next. Perfect for the long cold nights ahead, snuggled on your couch or at the foot of your bed. Materials are 6 high yardage skeins of worsted weight yarn, a size Q crochet hook and three chunky buttons between 1 and 2 inches in length or diameter. The first class will teach the stitch pattern for both pillow and throw (three strands of yarn held together). The second class will be assembly and embellishments. There is a $5 fee, payable at registration beginning Feb. 2 for South Huntington cardholders.
  3. Register for Tweens Night Out: Brush Bot 500 on 2/16
    Time : 9:30 AM
    Location : Program Room
    Details : Mini-motors. Toothbrushes. A Lego race track. Combine all three for a "bristling" evening of home-made race car wackiness. Trophies go the winners, but snacks will be enjoyed by all. Register February 2.
  4. Register for Living Healthy Series on 1/19 CANCELLED CANCELLED

    Location : Young Adult Room
    Details : This free, 6-week workshop will help you manage your health and maintain an active and fulfilling lifestyle. Topics include healthy eating, developing a safe physical activity program, working with health professionals, planning for future health care and making informed treatment decisions. The program is free, but please reserve your seat. South Huntington cardholders register beginning Jan. 2; others Jan. 9. This program is presented by RSVP Suffolk and funded in part by the Suffolk County Office for the Aging.
  5. A Time for Kids

    Location : Program Room
    Details : Enjoy a series of fun, educational classes for preschoolers ages 18 months - 5 years (not yet in Kindergarten) and an adult caregiver. This is a skill building, interactive class that will help prepare your child for independent learning experiences. Register January 26.
  6. Color Your World Adult Coloring
    Time : 10:00 AM
    Location : Meeting Room
    Details : Who says coloring is just for kids? Let your creative juices flow and color something beautiful while you socialize and meet others in the community. The library will provide coloring pages and pencils, but feel free to bring your own.
  7. Drop-In and Play

    Location : Program Room
    Details : Get out of the house, meet other parents and kids and have fun playing and talking together. It's a great way to meet other families in our community. Stay for as long or as little as you like.
  8. Crochet for Kids

    Details : Miss Gail will teach you basic stitches. After you have perfected your stitch, you will be given instructions to make a crocheted scarf or bag. Please bring to class a J crochet hook and a 4 ply skein of yarn. Register January 5.
  9. Chess and Games

    Location : Young Adult Room
    Details : Meet up with your friends at the library for a night of games. We will provide the boards for chess and various other games as well as light refreshments, you bring the skill. No registration required!
