  5. Tai Chi Level One
    Time : 9:30 AM
    Location : Meeting Room
    Details : Certified instructor Rosanne Pawluk will teach you Part 2 of the classic Yang 24 Form practiced in the US and China. The gentle flowing movements of tai chi aim to increase balance, flexibility and relaxation, and improve overall mind, body and spirit. There is a $42 fee payable at registration beginning Aug. 7 for South Huntington cardholders; others Aug. 14.
  6. Stories and Things

    Location : Program Room
    Details : Children (ages 2 to 3) and their accompanying grown-up participate in a program of music and movement, stories and a simple craft led by one of our children's librarians. Siblings are welcome. Registration begins September 5.

  8. Flu Shot Clinic

    Location : Program Room
    Details : Pharmacists from Rite-Aid will be on hand to administer flu and pneumonia shots. Medicare Part B covers the flu shots for seniors, and most private insurers do as well. If not, there is a fee of $34.99 for the flu shot. Coverage for the pneumonia shot varies by insurer.
  9. Movie: Gifted

  10. Advanced Memoir Writing
    Time : 6:30 PM
    Location : Program Room
    Details : This 6-week workshop is for writers with previous memoir workshop experience who are currently working on existing book projects. Through group discussions and constructive critique, we will cover all aspects of completing a memoir--what to include or exclude, setting and other story-depth builders, detail, chronology, "voice," etc. We will go over sections or scenes the writer is unsure about, and help build out the story to completion. Individualized tasks will be provided. The workshop is taught by New York Times bestselling author and award-winning journalist Robbie Woliver who also teaches writing and journalism at Farmingdale State College. There is a $20 fee payable at registration beginning Sept. 1 for South Huntington cardholders.
  11. SAT Review Class
    Time : 6:45 PM
    Location : Meeting Room
    Details : This 12 hour course is being taught on Mondays, September 18, 25 and October 2, 9, 16, 23, 6:45-8:45pm. Students will be instructed on special test taking skills and tactics specific to the SAT exam itself. All course instructors are NY State certified math or English teachers with experience teaching and tutoring for the SAT exam. There is an $85 fee due at the time of registration. Checks should be made payable to the South Huntington Public Library. Each student is responsible for purchasing a copy of McGraw-Hill's SAT, 2018 edition and bringing a calculator. Registration begins September 1 for South Huntington card holders. All others may register beginning September 11. No make-up classes will be available.

    Details : Calling all Teen Thespians!! Join us to audition for our fall production of Dear Edwina, a heartwarming musical about the joys of growing up. All interested SHPL district residents in grades 6th-12th are welcome to audition. Please prepare 16 bars of a song to sing from a contemporary musical. Bring sheet music if available.
  14. Young Adult Summer Photography Contest Reception
    Time : 7:00 PM
    Location : Young Adult Room
    Details : View the images submitted from the cameras of our Young Adult photographers which will be on display in the YA room. The winner of the Young Adult Photo Contest will be announced at the reception. Light refreshments will be served.
