    Details : Instructor Joanne Cohen will teach you how to make this cute hat to keep you toasty warm this winter. Please bring to class a size I hook and one skein of worsted weight - 4 yarn and a yarn sewing needle. There is a $5 fee payable at registration beginning Dec. 1 for South Huntington cardholders; others Dec. 8.

    Details : Need a last minute holiday gift? Or just want to relax and de-stress from the holiday hustle and bustle? Learn how to finger crochet in a matter of minutes with instructor Joanne Cohen. You will leave with a finished scarf in the time it takes to buy a gift at the mall. Please bring to class 2 skeins of bulky or mega bulky weight yarn (6 or 7) and scissors. Your fingers will do the rest! Class suitable for beginners. There is a $5 fee; South Huntington cardholders register beginning Dec. 1.

  9. Register for Teen STEAM Challenge - Santa's Demented Workshop on 12/15

    Details : Exercise your STEAM problem solving skills in this friendly team competition. A fun challenge will be unveiled on the night of the program to be sure you use your noodle, not your Google! Registration begins December 1.

    Details : Enjoy a series of fun, educational classes for preschoolers ages 18 months - 5 years (not yet in Kindergarten) and an adult caregiver. This is a skill building, interactive class that will help prepare your child for independent learning experiences. Register November 17.

    Details : Who says coloring is just for kids? Let your creative juices flow and color something beautiful while you socialize and meet others in the community. The library will provide coloring pages and pencils, but feel free to bring your own.
  12. Brain Matters

    Details : These workshops are based on the latest research and are designed to improve areas of the brain that naturally decline in the aging process. In this three-part series, Speech Language Pathologist Racheal McInnes will help participants develop skills that can be used in their daily routines to aid word finding, memory, and executive function. Participants will learn what they can do differently to combat the effect of aging as it relates to critical areas such as word finding, recalling, "why" we are walking into another room, or simply can't find our keys. Some free iPad apps will be featured in the workshop, and participants may bring their own iPads, but they are not required. Free, but register. South Huntington cardholders sign up beginning Nov. 3, others Nov. 10.

    Details : Get out of the house, meet other parents and kids and have fun playing and talking together. It's a great way to meet other families in our community. Stay for as long or as little as you like.

    Details : Join us for our fall production of Dear Edwina, a heartwarming musical about the joys of growing up. Presented by our own YA Theater Group. South Huntington cardholders can get free tickets for seating beginning Nov. 6. Get them online at www.shpl.info or in person at the Circulation Desk. Tickets are valid until 6:50 p.m., when non-ticket holders will be seated, if there is space.
