  1. Register for Brain Matters on 11/17

    Details : These workshops are based on the latest research and are designed to improve areas of the brain that naturally decline in the aging process. In this three-part series, Speech Language Pathologist Racheal McInnes will help participants develop skills that can be used in their daily routines to aid word finding, memory, and executive function. Participants will learn what they can do differently to combat the effect of aging as it relates to critical areas such as word finding, recalling, "why" we are walking into another room, or simply can't find our keys. Some free iPad apps will be featured in the workshop, and participants may bring their own iPads, but they are not required. Free, but register. South Huntington cardholders sign up beginning Nov. 3, others Nov. 10.

    Details : Join "A Time for Kids" for a special program. Interactive activities for children ages 2-5 years with an adult caregiver include singing, dancing, storytelling and much more! Math, reading and school skill readiness materials are matched with a turkey theme to create an hour of preschool educational fun! Register November 3.

    Details : Create this yummy masterpiece using candy, buttercream, and fondant cutouts. Everyone will go home with two cupcakes in a bakery box. Register November 3.
  4. Register for Prestino's Magic Show on 11/12
    Time : 9:30 AM
    Location : Community Room
    Details : Don't miss Magician Prestino as he transports you to a magical place of fun and entertainment. Audience participation is key in this fabulous show that features sleight of hand tricks, live animals, balloon animals and plenty of laughs. South Huntington cardholders can get free tickets beginning November 3. Tickets are valid until 2:20 p.m., when non-ticket holders will be seated, if there is space.
  5. Register for Teen STEAM Challenge on 11/17

    Details : Exercise your STEAM problem solving skills in this friendly team competition. A fun challenge will be unveiled on the night of the program to be sure you use your noodle, not your Google! Registration begins November 3.
  6. Register for Tweens Night Out: Painted Pig Challenge on 11/10

    Location : Program Room
    Details : Get crazy and customize your own ceramic piggy bank with paint and other embellishments. Enjoy some snacks and help award ribbons for creativity. Register November 3.
  7. A Time for Kids
    Time : 10:00 AM
    Location : Program Room
    Details : Enjoy a series of fun, educational classes for preschoolers ages 18 months - 5 years (not yet in Kindergarten) and an adult caregiver. This is a skill building, interactive class that will help prepare your child for independent learning experiences. Register October 13.
  8. Color Your World Adult Coloring

    Location : Meeting Room
    Details : Who says coloring is just for kids? Let your creative juices flow and color something beautiful while you socialize and meet others in the community. The library will provide coloring pages and pencils, but feel free to bring your own.
  9. Drop-In and Play
    Time : 12:00 PM
    Location : Program Room
    Details : Get out of the house, meet other parents and kids and have fun playing and talking together. It's a great way to meet other families in our community. Stay for as long or as little as you like.
  10. Crochet for Kids
    Time : 4:30 PM
    Location : Program Room
    Details : Miss Gail will teach you basic stitches. After you have perfected your stitch, you will be given instructions to make a crocheted scarf or bag. Please bring to class a J crochet hook and a 4 ply skein of yarn. Register October 6.
  11. Audio Recording Workshop
    Time : 5:00 PM
    Location : Young Adult Room
    Details : Record your song at the library and learn the basics of audio recording. This workshop meets October 13, 20, 27 and November 3 and 10 from 5pm-6:30pm. On November 10 students will stay to record our Open Mic Night at 7pm. Registration begins October 2.
  12. International Games Day
    Time : 6:00 PM
    Location : Program Room
    Details : Drop by and spend an afternoon playing a variety of games from around the world. No registration required.
  13. Chess and Games
    Time : 6:30 PM
    Location : Young Adult Room
    Details : Meet up with your friends at the library for a night of games. We will provide the boards for chess and various other games as well as light refreshments, you bring the skill. No registration required!
  14. Friday Film Fest: Fatal Attraction
    Time : 7:00 PM

    Details : Celebrate the 30th anniversary of this now-classic film, in which a New York attorney has a romantic fling while his wife is out of town, and then shrugs it off. But the woman involved with him won't be ignored, even if it means destroying his family to keep him. Nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture. Michael Douglas, Glenn Close. R, 119 mins.
