    Details : We will practice surf 'n' turf" poses and enjoy some savasana (relaxation) while listening to the sound of the ocean speak her mind. Please bring a beach towel. Register July 25.
  2. Tai Chi for Beginners

    Details : Certified instructor Rosanne Pawluk will lead you in the classic Yang 24 Form practiced in the US and China. The gentle flowing movements of tai chi aim to increase balance, flexibility and relaxation, and improve overall mind, body and spirit. There is a $32 fee for this 8-session class, payable at registration beginning June 6 for South Huntington cardholders; all others June 13.

    Details : Children (ages 2 to 3) and their accompanying grown-up participate in a program of music and movement, stories and a simple craft led by one of our children's librarians. Siblings are welcome. Registration begins July 5.

  6. Ropes 'n' Hoops

    Details : Swing into some old-fashioned jump roping with some cool jump rope rhymes. And, discover that hula hoops can be for more than just hula! Register July 11.
  7. Teen Creative Writing Retreat
    Time : 3:30 PM
    Location : Young Adult Room
    Details : The library and the Long Island Writing Project at Nassau Community College are teaming up to offer a unique opportunity for South Huntington teens this summer. The two-week Creative Writing Retreat is designed specifically to meet the needs of students entering grades 7-12 who have the desire to write creatively in any genre. Teens will develop their craft, gain valuable feedback and publish their work in a group anthology. This course is open to all teens, regardless of writing experience. The class will meet from 3-5:30 p.m. July 18-22 & 25-29. The program is free but registration is required. Register July 5. Enrollment is limited.
  8. Make A Mandala CANCELLED

    Location : Program Room
    Details : The word "mandala" comes from the Sanskrit, meaning "circle." Featuring balanced elements, mandalas can be used in meditation and on our spiritual journeys. Instructor Lauren Singer will show us how to create a beautiful mandala using colored pencils and collage. There is a $10 fee payable at registration beginning July 5 for South Huntington cardholders; others July 12. Enrollment is limited.
  9. Battle of the Books Practice Meeting

    Location : Young Adult Room
    Details : Hail, warriors. If you are entering grades 6, 7, 8 or 9 in September and love to read, I have need of your skills to read and memorize trivia from eight preselected books. Our band of warriors will train to compete against the other Suffolk libraries for the title of County Champion! Meetings will be on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 pm in the YA library. The actual battle takes place on Saturday, August 13th. For those about to read, WE SALUTE YOU!
  10. Defensive Driving

    Details : Learn to be a better driver with this two-session Empire Safety Council course, and you can save money on your auto insurance. There is a $28 fee payable at registration beginning July 1 for South Huntington cardholders; others July 8.
  11. Writing Your Memoirs
    Time : 7:00 PM
    Location : Meeting Room
    Details : This is a 6-week, 90-minute workshop concentrating on autobiographical writing. Everyone has a story to tell, and this workshop will help the participants write the most powerful and effective memoirs they can through group discussion, constructive critique of their work and short in-class writing assignments. In this supportive environment, participants can work on existing work, new work, a full memoir or short essays. The workshop is taught by New York Times bestselling author and award-winning journalist Robbie Woliver who also teaches writing and journalism at Farmingdale State College. There is a $20 fee, payable at registration, beginning June 6 for South Huntington cardholders; all others June 13.
