  5. How to Keep Yourself Safe

    Details : Learn about keeping yourself safe from a visiting police officer and firefighter. You will learn about stranger danger, bicycle safety, the operations of the police department and fire department, and fire prevention and safety. You will also get to see and touch some of the equipment police officers and firefighters use in their jobs and will be able to check out a real police car and fire truck. Register October 3.
  6. Homework Help Orientation: Training for Teen Volunteers

    Details : Students in grades 9-12 who want to earn Community Service by assisting children with homework.
  7. Creative Writing
    Time : 7:00 PM
    Location : Meeting Room
    Details : This 6-week workshop focuses on creatively writing about anything you want. Through group discussions and constructive critique, this workshop will help participants write the most powerful and effective stories their imaginations can come up with. We'll cover craft elements such as setting, character, voice, descriptiveness, and editing. In this supportive environment, participants can work on existing or new writings, a full novel, flash fiction, short essays or even a blog. The workshop is taught by New York Times bestselling author and award-winning journalist Robbie Woliver who also teaches writing and journalism at Farmingdale State College. There is a $20 fee. Registration begins Sept. 2 for South Huntington cardholders; others Sept. 9.
