VOTE YOUR CHOICE: TEENS' TOP TEN

[teenreadweek2010.gif] The Teens' Top Ten is a "teen choice" list, where teens nominate and choose their favorite books of the previous year! Nominators are members of teen book groups in 15 school and public libraries around the country. Between August 23 and September 17, readers ages 12 to 18 can vote on their favorite titles from the list of nominations. The winners of the 2010 Teens' Top Ten will be announced in a webcast featuring WWE Superstars and Divas during Teen Read Week, Oct. 17-23. Teens Rock Outdoor Garden

[Summer10 Rockfest FIN.jpg]

Friday, August 6th could not have been a more perfect night. The evening air was more than comfortable, and excitement for Rockfest 2010 was weaving its way through the librarys Outdoor Garden. Four local teen bands, Horizon, New 2 You, 49 and Counting, and Set in Color were lined up to play, and countless members of the community were there to attend the free show.

Horizon opened to an eager crowd, playing hits from bands like Green Day and Blink-182, and even a few original numbers. Following Horizon was New 2 You; their original music was exciting and entertaining, even featuring saxophone in one song. 49 and Counting was up next, marking a return to the library stage from their first appearance at the 2009 Rockfest. A little older and more mature, their sound and originality was something to be respected.

Closing the show was the well-established band Set In Color led by Trey Ewald. Trey has a long history of performing at SHPL's Rockfest that nearly ended this year because of the bands touring schedule. Fortunately, they made it, and their fun and energetic style got the audience moving. Even after the performance the energy continued as the crowd made its way to the merchandise tables to support the bands - an energetic end to a musical evening as dusk slipped into night.
